The 3 cover scans you
see here show the only 3 vinyl 45's they ever released. They had a picture sleeve which was actually just an inlay card in a plastic sleeve. |

SWISS BEAT, ROCK,
GARAGE + POP 1955-1970
Vinyl Singles, EPs + LPs
|
The SLAVES were a truly
international band and Europe's most awesome garage band, with a sound that would make the Pretty Things jealous. They influenced the Swiss band scene greatly for years to come. |
THE SLAVES - Although
often listed under Swiss garage bands they were an expat band from Vienna/Austria. However, they were deeply entrenched in the local band scene. Two Swiss musicians played with the SLAVES for a while: Jelly Pastorini (of later SHIVER fame) and Peter Rietmann (of DYNAMITES and SAUTERELLES fame) on bass. The core band members, however, were from Austria (see line-up list below). But the band lived, played, recorded and released their records in Zurich / Switzerland - at least until they were forced to leave Zurich due to the use of "forbidden substances". At that time they withdrew to Austria and their careeer was just about through... |
STAND UP FOR
PEACE - STAND UP FOR MOTHER EARTH |
The SAUTERELLES
released quite a few of
45rpm singles and 2 LPs. The quality of the material
differs greatly. On the
whole, the group was
over-rated and hyped

SWISS BEAT
LIVE, the legendary live
sampler featuring the
DYNAMITES, the
SAUTERELLES and the
COUNTS.
|
All of the SLAVES'
records (three 45rpm
singles only) were
recorded and released
exclusively on the Philips
label in Switzerland - so
this is where you would
look for them. But expect
to pay sky-high prices
because these vinyls are
practically impossible to
find. One reason is that
Philips released all three
of them at once which
was a bit dumb and
certainly did not promote
sales. |
In the eighties, a few of
their tracks were included
on unlicensed 60s garage
samplers. The tracks
"Slaves Time" and "Panic" were also released on an official Austrian LP sampler (ont he Fontana label) from 1966 entitled "Beat International". |
Above: On Feb. 1 and 2,
1966, the SLAVES and the
SEVENS co-starred at the
famed TRISCHLI, a dance
club in St. Gallen. The ad
above is a scan of the
original newspaper
clipping.

Die Zürcher Beatband THE

VG+ (Very Good Plus) = Guter gebrauchter Zustand. VG (Very Good) = Gebrauchter Zustand. G (Good) = Stark gebrauchter Zustand. |

Rackets
(Jimmy and the Rackets) |
The Rackets were a UK band active in Germany and headed by Jimmy Duncombe. In 1966 they took up residence in Zurich, Switzerland, released a number of 45 rpm singles there and played in local clubs. We still list them under international 60s rock and beat because their line-up was all-British | ||||||||||

Record / Sleeve Gradings (vinyl first, then sleeve):
NM (Near Mint) = New or as new. No or hardly any visual wear and/or noise. EX (Excellent) = Excellent used condition. Sounds excellent with some noise in the run-in grooves and during (mostly) quiet sections (max. 25% or record). Vinyl surface may show no, slight, moderate or stronger wear. VG+ (Very Good Plus) = Good used condition. Slight to moderate noise can be heard here and there (max. 50% of record), some pops or clicks are possible here and there. Vinyl surface may show no, slight or stronger signs of use. If there is slight noise throughout which can hardly be heard at treble value zero, this will also be graded as VG+. VG (Very Good) = Used condition. Slight to moderate noise can be heard throughout the record or in large portions of the record. Still an o.k. record, but below average. Tics and pops may be present. NO SKIPS, NO REPEATS, NO LOUD SCRATCH POPS, NO WARPS AFFECTING PLAY, NO DEEP AUDIBLE SCRATCHES unless specifically described. G (Good) = Heavily used condition. WE don't call it "good", but this is the official term. We call it "G". Strong noise and crackling, with pops and tics and even a some deep scratches may be present. But even this record can played. Skips may occur, but NO STICKS unless described . Warps that do not affect play on our audio system may be present. If they affect play, we would describe that. F (Fair). Disastrous condition. Record crackles heavily, deep scratches may be present, skips and even bad sticks and warps. An archive copy (certain songs may be perfectly alright), but not an enjoyment to listen to in its entirety. An NM record may have up to 1% background noise. EX++ max. 6%, EX+ max. 12%, EX max. 25%, VG+ up to 50%, VG up to 100%. G would have much stronger noise. We hardly ever carry VG or G records. All records are tested on high-quality hifi systems, not on high-end machines. If you want top quality, go for NM and EX++. EX is not top, but upper average. |
